So much happening at once...

The Fall semester of 2024 begins tomorrow for me. I know others have been back for a bit already. Let me tell you guys, from the other side of the classroom as a professor, it's equally stressful. I make it a point to take a small part of the week and focus on decompressing. Whether it's working out, cycling, noodling around in the studio, hanging out in the bookstore/cafe, even running errands; find something to take your mind off of things even if it's only a for a few hours. No excuses, Just do it.
In other news, I have three shows happening one right after the other, and another two to three lined up for later in the Fall. Current locations are here.
Oh...fingers crossed...motorcycle in September. Got the gear, can finally ride legally, think I found the bike. It drives me nuts when I see others out riding. I wanna be doing what they are. More to come.

Still haven't worked on Substack.

A lot happening all at once it seems...

Passed my motorcycle course/licensing and had fun doing it...now I get to go shopping for my bike (insert devilish laughter). I will never look at people on motorcycles the same anymore. I get it.

Three, possibly four shows within the next six weeks. I will be hitting the road soon to deliver pieces to galleries. The locations will be posted on the PLACES page. If you are in the region and can make it, please do. Email me a comment.

Syllabus writing and preparing for the upcoming Fall semester is well underway. Five classes, running the student gallery, academic advising plus a few things I won't mention here just yet, but looking forward to it getting started. I have spent a good chunk of my summer cleaning, conducting inventory, repairing, re-organizing the art building. I know almost every square inch of it now.

Today...

Worship, new phone provider, 3D printing some pieces, a bit of work on Substack (which I will link soon), and painting later. Oh, and a couple sessions of tutoring this evening.

A relaxing Sunday.

What you do not see on my gallery page are all the pieces that are in progress. I want to show them for some feedback, but I think that would be more for stroking my ego. It would not be for objective and critical feedback, but to seek some shallow level of validation from others.
Not doing that.

Either like my work or hate it. And if you really like it, steer others towards my work. Spread the word.
If you really, really, really like it...pull out that checkbook. No haggling.

I will be the first to admit that most people do not know what to do with my work when they see it. Developing relationships with galleries and venues is a challenge. My work is not difficult visually to comprehend, it's the meaning behind it that escapes most people. However, that'll change. It already is.

Picked up this little gem on Saturday. Alphonse Mucha has been one of my favorite illustrators/painters for quite some time. Late 19th/early 20th century painter known for his work in the Art Nouveau movement. Born in the Czech Republic, Mucha was a contemporary of Henri de Toulouse Lautrec and Louis Tiffany.

Permit me to rant...
My personal thoughts on most of the internet and social media are pretty low. As a victim of identity theft, fraud, and an extortion attempt, I trust almost no one out there. In my view, social media is for the most part a wasteland of low IQs, malicious intent, and attention seekers. We no longer know who is real and who isn't.

The misinformation, the lies, the hatred and threats towards others are all too real. Much of it comes from a fairly small percentage of people and groups, and they are as fervent in their malice and irrational fears as they are in their cowardice. The internet has given them a place to spout out their insanity and hate, damaging the fabric of our society, and provide place to hide in anonymity and from accountability.

Disgusting.
